In Fall 2004, the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim was heavily promoting the premiere "Squidbillies" (2005) on 7 November 2004. That night, the network announced the premiere of the show. But instead of "Squidbillies", the network aired the pilot for "Perfect Hair Forever" (2004). Immediately following that was this "special presentation" in which a panel of characters from Adult Swim's shows discussed what they just saw. Viewers thought that it had all been an elaborate prank by Adult Swim and that "Squidbillies" did not really exist. But it was later reported that the script had gone through numerous rewrites and retooling throughout 2004 and the writers became unsure about the "Squidbillies" pilot. Just a few weeks before the premiere date, the pilot was scrapped. The producers decided to air the already completed pilot of "Perfect Hair Forever" in its place. This special was hastily put together just days before the premiere date to fill out the time slot.
There were no opening or closing credits at all to this special so it did not have an onscreen title. But Adult Swim referred to it as "Anime Talk Show" in their bumps the following week. So it is known under this title among Adult Swim fans.
