"Animal" is a single released by R.E.M. It was one of two new songs recorded for the band's Warner Bros. Records "best of" album, In Time - The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003, (the other being "Bad Day") and was released as a single in support of the album.
"Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)" is a song written by Blackie Lawless, released as the first single by heavy metal band, W.A.S.P..
"Animal" is a song recorded by British hard rock band Def Leppard in 1987 from the album Hysteria. It was the first single release off the album in many countries, and became the band's first Top 10 hit in their home of the United Kingdom.
"Animal" is usually noted by the band as having been the most difficult track to record for Hysteria. Although it was one of the first songs developed in early 1984, neither the band nor the producers who came and went (Jim Steinman, Nigel Green, & Mutt Lange) were able to produce the desired sound until two and a half painstaking years later.
However, the effort paid off when "Animal" was released as the lead single off the album in July 1987. In the UK, where the band was all but ignored during the Pyromania era, the song hit #6 on the singles chart and broke Def Leppard into the pop mainstream across Europe.
Over in America, the lead single "Women" performed poorly on the pop charts, which did give the band much momentum when "Animal" was released afterwards in October 1987. It did reach a respectable #19 though, starting their run of ten consecutive US Top 40 singles, and is still one of the more popular numbers at Def Leppard concerts today.
The single's UK B-side, "Tear It Down", was written during a recording session following the completion of the Hysteria album, where the band laid down several tracks intended as B-sides for the Hysteria singles. Subsequently, the song itself received radio airplay and was later performed by the band live at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards.
The band later re-recorded "Tear It Down" for the Adrenalize album.
A.N.I.M.A.L. (Acosados Nuestros Indios Murieron Al Luchar) (meaning Harassed, Our Indians Died While Fighting) was a metal band from Argentina.
The band was founded by the singer and guitarist Andrés Giménez in 1992 under the name of "Animal", but due to legal issues the name was changed to the spelling A.N.I.M.A.L. The band's sound is heavy metal and most lyrics deal with issues of ethnic minorities and indigenous people of Latin America; witnessed by song titles such as Sólo Por Ser Indios ("Only For Being Indian"), Guerra De Razas ("Races War"), Poder Latino ("Latin Power") and Raza Castigada ("Punished Race").
The band experienced commercial success in the mid-to-late 1990s and toured throughout a number of Latin American countries, the United States and Europe. When longtime bassist Marcelo "Corvata" Corvalán and then drummer Andres "El Niño" Vilanova (who joined in 1998 at age 17) left the band in 1999, the band entered a decline as many fans started losing interest in it.
In 2006 it was announced that the band would take an indefinite break; this resulted in Martín Carrizo's (drummer) leaving the band and Andrés Giménez forming a new band called "D'mente" (word play meaning both demente ("lunatic") and devil mente ("devil mind", Andrés' nickname).
"Animal" is the third single from Pearl Jam's second studio album, Vs. It was released as a single in 1994. The song was performed at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1993, a rare occurrence for a song without a music video. It peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. "Animal" later appeared on their greatest hits album, Rearviewmirror: Greatest Hits 1991-2003.
"Animal" originated as an instrumental demo called "Weird A" that was written by Stone Gossard in 1990. The song includes elements of funk. Guitarist Mike McCready on the song:
Live performances of "Animal" can be found on the "Animal" single, the "Dissident"/Live in Atlanta box set, and the Live at the Gorge 05/06 box set. A performance of the song is also included on the DVD Touring Band 2000.
Animal is the first single to be released from Jebediah's second studio album Of Someday Shambles. It was released on the 9 August 1999 and reached number 16 on the Australian ARIA Singles Charts.
