Alan King (December 26, 1927 - May 9, 2004) was an American comedian known for his biting wit and often angry humorous rants. King became well-known as a Jewish comedian and satirist. He appeared in a number of movies and television shows. King wrote several books, produced films, and appeared in plays. In later years, he helped many philanthropic causes.
Alan King (born 1966) is a British racehorse trainer specialising mainly in National Hunt racing. He is based at Barbury Castle stables near Wroughton, Wiltshire.
He worked as assistant trainer to David Nicholson until Nicholson's retirement and then took out a licence to train himself, first at Jackdaw's Castle stables, before moving to Barbury Castle in June 2000.
His biggest wins have come with My Way de Solzen in the 2006 World Hurdle, Voy Por Ustedes in the 2007 Queen Mother Champion Chase and Katchit in the 2008 Champion Hurdle. His principal stable jockey is Robert Thornton.
Is the Abbot of the New York Friars Club - attends all celebrity roasts.
Dropping out of high school, he was schooled instead in rimshot comedy by Milton Berle in the Catskills.
In January 1961, he was the emcee for a portion of President Kennedy's inaugural party.
Hosted the Academy Awards in 1972.
Produced the Broadway plays "The Lion in Winter" and "Dinner at Eight"; the films "Cattle Annie and Little Britches" and "Wolfen"; and the TV sitcom "The Corner Bar."
Author of five books, including "Anyone Who Owns Their Own Home Deserves It," "The Alan King Great Jewish Joke Book" and "Matzo Balls for Breakfast and Other Memories of Growing Up Jewish."
Three children: Robert, Andrew and Elaine Ray.
Developed a fondness for drinking and gambling during his years on the Las Vegas circuit. He credited his family for helping him curb his problems.
Thrived on social humor and life's annoyances. Jerry Stiller once called him "the Jewish Will Rogers (I)".
Played drums and formed a group called "Earl Knight and His Musical Knights" while a teenager.
