Across the Pacific is a 1942 thriller set on the eve of the United States' entry into World War II. The film was directed first by John Huston, then by Vincent Sherman after Huston joined the United States Army Signal Corps. It stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick Leland, Mary Astor as Alberta Marlow, Sydney Greenstreet as Dr. Lorenz and Charles Halton as A. V. Smith. In spite of the title, the action in the movie takes place on the Atlantic seaboard and on the Isthmus of Panama.
Rick Leland makes no secret of the fact he has no loyalty to his home country after he is court-marshaled out of the army and boards a Japanese ship for the Orient in late 1941. But has Leland really been booted out, or is there some other motive for his getting close to fellow passenger Doctor Lorenz? Any motive for getting close to attractive traveller Alberta Marlow would however seem pretty obvious. Written by Jeremy Perkins
Bogart plays a U.S. officer of artillery who is court martialled in disgrace (in 1941) and who leaves the country. He gets a job offer in central America with a stop off in Panama. While there he discovers Japanese plot to attack the Panama Canal along with the Pearl Harbor attack. Written by John Vogel
