48 Shades, based on Nick Earls' popular novel 48 Shades of Brown, is a 2006 Australian comedy by debut director Daniel Lapaine starring Richard Wilson, Emma Lung, Robin McLeavy and Victoria Thaine. It was filmed in Brisbane, Australia. School scenes from the movie were filmed in the real-life Brisbane Boys' College. 48 Shades was released in Australia on 31 August 2006. The film was not a success, and ranked only 18th in the Australian Box Office in its first week.

Based on the award winning novel by Nick Earls, 48 Shades of Brown, this coming of age comedy is about a 16 year old, Dan, who must choose between going to Geneva with his parents for a year or move into a house with his young Aunt, Jacq, and her roommate, Naomi.
