The 2003 MTV Movie Awards was held on May 31, 2003 in Los Angeles. It was hosted by Seann William Scott and Justin Timberlake and featured performances by t.A.T.u. and P!nk. Colin Farrell was presented an award for Trans-Atlantic Breakthrough Performance by Victoria and David Beckham, although this award was not broadcasted in the United States.
The show included a parody of The Matrix Reloaded, intercutting actual footage with new material from the hosts. The unedited version is on the DVD version of The Matrix Reloaded.
After Gollum's show-stealing acceptance speech, the camera cuts back to Elijah Wood. If you read his lips you can see he's saying "That was f***in' awesome!". This can also be seen in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The (2002) Special Extended Edition DVD as an Easter Egg bonus, See Trivia of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The (2002)
The Gollum acceptance speech won the 2004 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, controversially beating out episodes of Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Smallville.
