$25 Million Dollar Hoax was an unscripted television series commissioned by U.S. network NBC. It was based on a United Kingdom show titled The Million Pound Hoax, broadcast on Sky One earlier in the year.
$25 Million Dollar Hoax consisted of three unscripted hour-long episodes in which small-town girl Chrissy Sanford played a hoax on her family by convincing them she had won a $5m lottery prize through the internet, and that it had changed her from a sweet girl into a spend-a-holic. This program was an example of reality television.
$25 Million Dollar Hoax contained guest appearances by Ed McMahon, George Gray and * NSYNC's Lance Bass.
The show was broadcast in the U.S. by NBC, in Canada by Global, and in the United Kingdom by Challenge.
Chrissy successfully pulled off the hoax which won her and her family over $400,000 in cash and prizes.
A three-episode reality series. A woman has to convince her family that she has won the lottery and that the money has turned her from a nice girl into a selfish shopaholic. If the prank is successful, the family really will win a large prize. If she fails, her and her family get nothing. Written by van_whistler@hotmail.co.uk
