Thomas Davis (born March 22, 1983 in Shellman, Georgia) is an American football linebacker in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers. He was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. He attended Randolph-Clay Middle/High School. He was not highly recruited out of high school and was only offered a scholarship to one Division I school. The University of Georgia offered him a scholarship after a coach saw him play a basketball game. Even though he was drafted as a safety, he was converted to linebacker during his rookie year.
Thomas Davis (December 18, 1806 - July 26, 1895) was a U.S. Representative from Rhode Island.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Davis attended private schools. Immigrated to the United States and located in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1817. He engaged in manufacturing jewelry. He served as member of the State senate 1845-1853.
Davis was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the Thirty-fourth Congress. He resumed his former manufacturing pursuits. He was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Thirty-sixth, Forty-second, Forty-third, and Forty-sixth Congresses. He again served in the State senate in 1877 and 1878. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1887-1890. He served as member of the Providence school committee. He died in Providence, Rhode Island, July 26, 1895. He was interred in Swan Point Cemetery.
Thomas Davis was an English shipwright. In 1727 the Amsterdam Admiralty, the largest of the six Dutch Chambers that made up the Dutch East India Company, brought in Davis, Charles Bentham and John May to work for them in improving ship design and avoiding the wreck after wreck they had recently been suffering.
