Suddenly Susan is an American sitcom that was broadcast on NBC from 1996 to 2000. Its headlining star was Brooke Shields, who got the show after a guest appearance on Friends (also produced by Warner Bros. Television) in the episode "The One After the Superbowl".
Suddenly Susan takes place at The Gate, a fictitious magazine which is based in San Francisco. Among the magazine's employees is Susan Keane (played by Brooke Shields), who always has been cared for by someone else. However, when she realizes that she and her wealthy, vain fiancé, Kip, are not meant for each other and that there’s more to life than just being known as the "s" in "The Kip Richmonds", she abruptly leaves him at the altar...and now she’s suddenly just Susan.
Susan's boss, Jack Richmond (played by Judd Nelson), the rebellious brother of Susan's former fiancé, Kip, assigns Susan to write a regular column about being suddenly single. Susan's coworkers include photographer Luis Rivera (played by Nestor Carbonell), music critic Todd Stites (played by David Strickland), restaurant critic Vicki Groener (played by Kathy Griffin) and investigative reporter Maddy Piper (played by Andréa Bendewald). Susan's grandmother and confidant, Nana (played by Barbara Barrie), stands as a loving pillar of encouragement in Susan's otherwise hectic life.
Besides the task of putting together a magazine and focusing on the lead character's life, Suddenly Susan also focuses on the private lives of many employees in the show.
Jack owns a magazine and is the former brother-in-law of Susan. After she runs out on her fiancé on their wedding day, Jack agrees to take her back at the magazine. Written by Steve Richer

She works as a copy editor for The Gate, a magazine, which is owned by Jack, her fiance's brother. She came in to work expecting to be fired but Jack, who is not exactly happily married, is impressed by her that he offers her a column, which he decides to call Suddenly Susan. Susan is suround by some weird people at the magazine; Vicky who is a bit of a shrew, who thinks that Susan can get anything she wants cause she is so stunning, Luis, a Latin photographer, who is a bit of a ladies' man, Todd, the music critic, who is a bit spacy. During the second season, Maddy Piper, an investigative reporter, whom Susan knew and didn't like in high school join the magazine and took great in putting eveybody down. During the third season, Susan and Jack tried to have a relationship. During the fourth season, Jack, Maddy and Todd were gone. The Gate was bought by the overbearing Ian Maxtone Graham. Accompanying him were his secretary, Miranda, and Nate, a sportwriter. And dropping by every now and then, and catching Susan's attention is Oliver, a friend of Ian's and a freelance photographer.
