Grand is a half-hour situation comedy airing on the NBC network in 1990. The series featured an ensemble cast including Pamela Reed, Bonnie Hunt, Michael McKean, John Randolph, Andrew Lauer, John Neville, Joel Murray and Sara Rue. It was created by Michael Leeson, executive produced by Leeson, Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner. Grand ran for 25 episodes, from January 18 to December 27, 1990.
Drama set both above and below stairs in an opulent Manchester hotel after World War I. A cross between "Upstairs, Downstairs" (1971) and "Duchess of Duke Street, The" (1976). The hotel is owned by brothers John and Marcus Bannerman, with John's wife Sarah holding a casting vote. John is dull but reliable; Marcus is devious, unscrupulous - and in love with Sarah... Mr Collins is the head porter whose son died in the war but who is too proud to let his grief show. Kate Morris and Monica Jones are chambermaids who dream of bettering themselves: things look up for Monica when one of the long-term guests, Esme Harkness (an ageing prostitute!), takes her under her wing and teaches her how to be a lady. Tom and Carol Anne Smithson move to the tiny town of Grand, Pennsylvania, where Tom has gotten a job at the Weldon Piano Works. Tom is soon fired, however, after his "innovative idea for the future of the company" (making golf clubs at the piano factory) is panned by Mr. Weldon. Mr. Weldon takes a liking to Carol Anne, however, and hires her. Over the course of the series, Carol Anne meets and befriends the working class Janice Pasetti. The goings on of the small town are covered in humorous and often touching detail. Written by Jason A. Cormier
